Senegal's manager Pape Thiaw has not yet lost a game in charge. He has guided the nation to two wins and two draws since he took over in December.

He said of the win over England: “First thing I would like to do is to congratulate my players for the tremendous performance and mindset that they showed out on the pitch.

"I think that from the very beginning they set out the display they wanted to win.

“I think we showed a great mentality, we came back, managed to equaliser just before half-time.

"Then the second half half we were able to pose our own game a little bit more, we scored the two goals in order to win, what was a great victory for us. It was great to be able to win here, at a country imbued with football.”

The last time England were beaten by a country from another continent for the first time was in 2003, when they were defeated 3-1 at Upton Park by Australia.

When Cheikh Sabaly slotted home the visitors' third goal at the City Ground on Tuesday, he etched a historic win in the records of the Senegal national football team.

Pape Thiaw's team had completed a 3-1 victory over England - the first win for an African country over the Three Lions in 22 attempts.

Ismaila Sarr and Habib Diarra earlier turned the tide in the favour of the visitors, after Harry Kane gave Thomas Tuchel's side an early lead in the friendly.

"Fantastic night. We knew we could do something in this game," Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It was a tough game, but we showed our personality and showed we can play at this level."

England midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White said on the Football Daily podcast: "It's very disappointing. We let ourselves down, we let the country down, we let the badge down. It really wasn't good enough.

"It felt like after we went 2-1 down, that's when we started to play. That's when we started to have that freedom and try and do something with the game but we should have started the game like that and took our chances.

"It's a disappointing night but we go back to the drawing board and we keep being positive and keep working together."

Now this is a tasty bit of gossip - Leroy Sane will reportedly leave Bayern Munich this summer after opting against g a new contract.

According to Sky , the 29-year-old has definitively rejected an improved contract offer and will become a free agent at the end of the month.

Sky also say that the former Manchester City man is set to Turkish giants Galatasaray despite interest from Arsenal and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

Manchester City

The transfer window re-opens on Monday, 16 June, but clubs participating in the Fifa Club World Cup had to complete deals by 19:00 BST on Tuesday for new gs to be eligible to play in the group stage of the tournament.

Though City only publicly announced the g of Tijjani Reijnders this morning, all paperwork was completed in time before Tuesday's deadline, meaning Reijnders can play at the Club World Cup.

City did not announce the deal on Tuesday because Reijnders was in the Netherlands squad for their 8-0 win over Malta, though he was an unused substitute.

Manchester City

On the g of Tijani Reijnders, Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana said: "We are very happy that Tijjani has ed us and we're excited for him to Pep's squad.

"He arrives here with extensive top level experience in Europe, both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands.

"Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength."

Tijani Reijnders said he is "ecstatic" to be ing Manchester City and described the chance to play in the Premier League as a "dream".

“City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities," he said.

"Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.

"It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps."

Manchester City have announced the g of Tijani Reijnders from AC Milan for an initial fee of £46.5 million.

The 26-year-old Netherlands midfielder has signed a five-year-deal that will keep him at the club until 2030.

Reijnders is City's fourth g of the summer, following the g of left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri on Monday and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and midfielder Rayan Cherki on Tuesday.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill after his side's 1-0 win over Iceland: "The reality is I know the team will continue to progress beyond the World Cup campaign.

"It's just natural. The more they play international football the better they will get at it.

"That's what they need, they need more exposure and more minutes under their belts. Will the World Cup campaign come too soon for this group?

"I don't know, the proof will be in the games but we approach it in a good place and we're optimistic.

"There's a belief in there that we can go and take points at this level."

Northern Ireland held on for a narrow friendly victory over Iceland despite playing for more than half an hour with 10 men.

The hosts had taken the lead through Isaac Price's 36th-minute strike and came close to extending their advantage on several occasions either side of the break before Brodie Spencer was dismissed 12 minutes into the second half.

The Huddersfield Town defender was the last man when he pulled back Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, with Danish referee Morten Krogh quick to brandish the red card.

But the hosts defended stoutly with Price clearing an Andri Gudjohnsen header off the line and then, in added time, Isak Bergmann Johannesson was denied by an excellent save from Pierce Charles.

It confirmed a battling victory that boss Michael O'Neill will hope gives his side momentum heading into their first 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture away to Luxembourg in September.
